Boost file system performance after booting up by doing this:

Open XP Smoker

Under the "Maintenance" section click on Disk Usage.

Select your system drive if it isn't selected already.

Click the process drive button.

This processes your entire filesystem.

Here's the performance booster:

Now as a nice "side-effect" of this feature, your entire filesystem is cached into memory. You will have faster access times and your computer will seem much faster until you reboot it.

I do this every time I start my computer.

I think I like this!

Is there any chance this could be made to run automatically upon boot? Maybe as a standalone feature?

Not currently, but it is a good idea as possibly a new feature in the future.

Any chance of creating a shortcut to Desktop.

XP Smoker Pro 5.2 has this feature added. You can add it to your startup. It is called the "File Cache Boost" feature.

Is there any way to change the order of the items when you use this feature and process the drive? Will it take my game options to the front of the list instead of about down at the bottom? Wink

No. It just reads the drive based on the drive structure and how it is laid out.
