Internet Optimizer

XP Smoker's internet optimizer will optimize any internet connection.

You must be actively connected to the internet to use the optimizer.
Simply select the rated (advertised) download speed of your connection.  If you are unsure of your rated download speed then consult your ISP's support dept.

Then select the server you want to run the tests with.  Or you can type in the name of a server (web address) or IP address you want to use.  You can also optimize your LAN by typing the IP address of a computer on your network and running the tests against that computer.

You will need to reboot for the changes to take effect. Use a PPPOE Connection" Checkbox

"I use a PPPOE Connection" Checkbox

Checking this box lets XP Smoker know that you are using a PPPOE connection.

A PPPOE connection normally is a dialup or DSL connection that requires a username and password to log onto the network. It also requires a different MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) for optimum performance, and in some cases to even work at all.

If you are unsure, I suggest calling your ISP support department first. They can tell you if your connection is a PPPOE connection.

If you check the box anyway and your connection is not a PPPOE connection it will not hurt it, however, it can degrade performance slightly.

Most Cable connections are not PPPOE.

Most DSL connections are PPPOE.
