| Miscellaneous Tab Optimize menu reaction speed Use this setting to optimize the reaction time of the Start menu when your mouse hovers over an item. Optimize icon cache In certain cases a (too) small cache size leads to an incorrect display of some icons. This setting sets the icon cache size to it's maximum. Enable Clear Type In Windows XP, you can also enable Clear Type, a "new" Font Smoothing method that works even better than the "normal" Font Smoothing. It really smooths out the fonts. They don't look so jagged. Optimize mouse port refresh rate Sometimes the mouse cursor in Windows XP flickers because the refresh rate of the mouse port is to slow. XP Smoker sets this rate higher to make your mouse movement smoother. Use this setting only for a PS/2 mouse. What is a PS/2 Mouse? Here is a picture of a PS/2 mouse connector, if yours doesn't look like this, don't use this tweak:
Notice the round connector at the end of the wire. That is a PS/2 connector. The mouse could be an optical mouse or an old fashioned wheel mouse (the kind with a rubber ball inside), as long as it has the connector above. Use Max Critical Worker Threads and Use Max Delayed Worker Threads If you have enough RAM, (512MB or more) you should try enabling this feature and see if your computer works faster. You can always change it later. " An XP system has three types of worker threads, each aimed at different priorities of work: delayed worker threads perform low-priority tasks; critical worker threads perform jobs that must be completed as soon as possible and run at a realtime priority; and one hypercritical worker thread exists only for specific, system-related operations such as exited-process cleanup. Ideally, the number of worker threads needs to be high enough that they pick up work tasks as soon as the tasks are assigned. The tradeoff is that idle worker threads needlessly use system resources. Disable Balloon Tips You can use this option to disable those annoying balloon tips. Remove Windows Messenger button This button will remove Windows Messenger 4.5 or later from Windows XP. Once Windows Messenger is removed. The "Disable Windows Messenger " setting will be grayed out and so will the "Remove Windows Messenger" button. Disable Windows Messenger You can select this option instead of removing Windows Messenger. This option will prevent Windows Messenger from running. Disable Recycle Bin Does they recycle bin get on your nerves? Are you tired of hitting the shift key to delete a file? Select this option and the recycling bin is automatically bypassed and files are deleted directly Clear Icon Cache Sometimes your icons on your desktop may not display properly. Using this option deletes the icon cache forcing it to rebuild on reboot. If this cache is corrupted this will fix the problem. Disable User Tracking Stops Windows from recording user tracking information including which applications a user runs and which files and documents are being accessed Remove Arrows From Shortcuts Removes the arrows from shortcuts on the desktop, IE Favorites, etc. |
